Global Warming hits Ice Show

The festival covers 400,000 square metres and uses 120,000 cubic metres of ice and snow.
Smaller sculptures are carved from blocks of ice with chain saws and chisels.

Some are creations of snow made to look like geographic features such as Canada's Niagara Falls.

Thousands of tourists from China and other countries brave the very low temperatures to admire the ice sculptures, some of them big enough even to walk through.
However a famous ice festival in China, that attracts many tourists, appears to be suffering from rising temperatures. The ice sculptures are starting to melt much earlier than usual. Harbin is one of China's coldest cities. In winter, temperatures can drop as low as -35C.
Last year, Harbin's average temperature was 6.6C, the highest on record. This years theme is on the Olympics to be held in China later this year. Here is a short video on this and you can read an article here on this.
